Conflict of Interest? School Board Votes On How They Are Elected.

At the August 18th School Board Meeting, the CC School Board voted to approve the "School Board Member Post Reapportionment Resolution". (5-2 vote; Usher and Geist dissented).  This resolution calls for each school board member to be elected county wide and not by post.

Is it just me or is there a conflict of interest in the School Board members voting on exactly how they are to be elected?  Has anyone asked this question?

From the Meeting Minutes:
Michael Geist stated that he agrees with many of the comments provided by the survey results, but also likes the idea of a combination option. He stated that he supports accountability instead of incumbency in redistricting.
Rob Usher stated that he supports countywide election of School Board Members. He also indicated that he would not support lines being redrawn to purposely displace individual Board Members or force them to
run against each other.
Kim Cochran asked if combination options were available, which would allow five Board seats be elected by post and two elected countywide. Dr. P. stated that this was not an advisable model for a countywide school district. He indicated that such models lend themselves to far more interest group activity and do not contribute to policy decisions that are in the best interest of all of the county’s children.

Be careful of what you say about interest groups, Super P, you just might need to call on that P.T.A. interest group again.
